Landed Estates

The management of landed estates has changed significantly over the last decade. In order to prosper in a highly competitive market, estates have changed from passive owners, collecting rents, into active asset managers of property investment businesses.

Westcotts has experience in acting for landed estates across the South West of England.  We are able to provide a full range of services tailored to the individual needs of the estate and its owners and family members. This will include but not be limited to the commercial issues involved with the management of agricultural, residential and commercial portfolios as well as any businesses running alongside the estate such as farm shops and tourism.

Our agricultural consultancy team can provide valuable help and work alongside your accountant to support the in hand management of farming units. We are fully versed in dealing with the nuances of shoots, other sporting rights, woodlands and heritage property.

Our tax department has wide experience of handling capital taxes planning – particularly IHT and CGT; dealing with the complexities of family trusts and specialist areas such as renewable energy investments.   We can assist the owners and family members with the management of the estate, balancing the planned succession needs with keeping the estate on a sound commercial footing. It is important to fit all planning work to the family’s requirements, rather than fitting the family to the planning.

We are experienced at preparing accounts for landed estates. We are well versed in incorporating the unique requirements of each of our client’s estate whilst bringing together the various activities and ownerships in an understandable format.
