Rossiter & Sons
Westcotts have been looking after Weston-super-Mare based Rossiter & Sons Jewellers for more than three decades, providing them with all the compliance services required for their business to thrive.
Rossiter & Sons Jewellers is a family run business which has been trading since 1832 and is now owned and managed by the sixth and seventh generations of the Rossiter family. A trusted name in the community, Rossiter’s offer high quality modern and antique jewellery combined with a personal service, delivered through their shops in Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon and Barnstaple.
This long establishment is testament not only to the commitment of the family over nearly two centuries, but also to the many loyal customers who have supported them through generations.
The Westcotts team, led by Peter Lomax, Partner and Head of Audit at the Westcotts Weston-super-Mare office, have continued to support the business with all their accountancy needs, from preparing accounts, organising payroll to corporation tax and completing their VAT returns.
Peter said, “Supporting the Rossiter family has been very rewarding, providing for their accountancy needs so that the business can continue to be handed down from generation to generation.
“As a team, our goal is to take all the worry out of accounting, bookkeeping, and compliance, and away from management, so that they can concentrate on running the business and ensuring its success for the next 190 years!”
For many businesses, the past few years have been turbulent. Peter and the Westcotts team have been on hand to help the Rossiter family deal with the changes and challenges, from national accountancy changes to payroll changes, such as the furlough scheme launched during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The team’s knowledge and expertise meant that when HMRC introduced ‘Making Tax Digital’ a few years ago, they were able to guide them through the changes to ensure the business complied with the new rules. The jargon-free approach taken by Westcotts meant that, despite being daunted by the prospect of digitalisation, the Rossiter family were able to transition smoothly to the new processes.
As the business continues to be a staple in Somerset and Devon, the Rossiter family have reflected on how they would like to move forward, in our new podcast episode.
Jeremy Rossiter said, “Like all retail businesses at the moment, we’ve had to grapple with the changes in shopping habits and the explosion in online shopping. Our goal for the future is to enhance what we do, and how we do it, to deliver the best possible service for our loyal customers. Ideally, we would like to expand the range of stock we offer but keeping 15 staff employed and enjoying their jobs is something we would consider a success.
“The Westcotts team are vital to these goals, helping us with payroll and VAT, understanding our finances and accounts, and offering advice. Reassured that we are in safe hands, they enable us to continue to focus on the running of our stores.”
