Westcotts charity golf day raises over £7,000 for local multiple sclerosis centre

This month our annual charity golf day raised £7,234 for the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre. A self-funded charity, the centre provides oxygen therapy, physical and complementary therapies and information and support for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurological and long-term health conditions.

MS is a lifelong condition affecting the brain and spinal cord that causes fatigue, muscle stiffness and spasms, and problems with concentration among other things. While there is currently no cure for MS, there are various treatments available to slow the progression of the condition and ease symptoms.

The South West MS Centre treats members of all ages and these wellbeing improvements extend to members’ families and carers as well. The centre operates mainly for people with varying stages of MS, but they also offer oxygen therapy to those with other conditions such as fibromyalgia and long Covid. As well as providing wellness therapies, the centre is also a place to socialise, receive emotional support and helpful advice. It reminds people that they are not alone in their condition and allows for sharing of stories to encourage a positive outlook on life.

At Westcotts we support a range of local charities, and this year’s annual charity golf day was dedicated to the MS centre. Despite the awful weather, spirits were high and plenty of teams showed up to compete.

This year 20 teams from across the region joined the day’s golf match as well as a variety of generous sponsors who helped us to reach our grand total.

Jon Mitchell, Partner at Westcotts organised the charity golf day, and said: “A huge thank you to all of the teams that participated and our sponsors for their support. We appreciated your dedication and good humour in the face of bad weather and we’re proud to have raised over £7,000 to support the South West MS Centre so they can continue to provide their services to local people.”

Rory Gibson, Chair of the Board of Trustees at the South West MS Centre, said: “Thank you to all the teams and to Westcott’s and our staff for powering though in spite of the challenging weather! We are blown away by the generosity of our members, supporters and businesses who supported us for this important fundraiser.”

“As a local, self-funding charity, every penny really does count, and this money will enable us to subsidise our Oxygen Therapy and Neuro Physiotherapy services for those with Multiple Sclerosis and other long term health conditions.”
