Westcotts appoints Ben Sharland as Director in Plymouth

Leading South West accountancy firm Westcotts has strengthened its Plymouth team with the appointment of highly experienced accountant Ben Sharland as a Director.

Ben, who began his accountancy career in 2006, joins Westcotts having previously worked for a Top 10 accountancy firm.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Fellow of the Association of Taxation Technicians, he brings extensive experience of supporting businesses and individuals across a broad range of accounting, tax and business advisory matters.

Based at Westcotts’ Plymouth office, Ben will work with SMEs and owner-managed businesses, providing practical advice to help them manage their finances, plan for growth and navigate the challenges of running a business.

His role includes advising on statutory and management accounts, business and personal taxation, VAT compliance and tax planning, as well as supporting start-ups and helping businesses make better use of digital accounting solutions.

Ben said: “Having previously worked for a large accountancy firm, I wanted to return to my roots, working closely with SMEs and owner-managed businesses across Devon and Cornwall.

“I’ve always enjoyed building long-term relationships with clients, getting to know their businesses and understanding what they want to achieve. That enables me to provide practical, commercially focused advice tailored to each client’s circumstances and make a real difference, whether that’s helping someone starting their first business or supporting an established company with its next stage of development.

Outside work, Ben is a keen sports enthusiast who competes in local pool leagues and follows the fortunes of Queens Park Rangers. He lives with his wife and their two young sons.
